We’re proud to share that we have received the King’s Award for Voluntary Service, recognising the dedication of our volunteers who support homeless people and rough sleepers in Chelmsford. This award is the highest recognition a local voluntary group can receive in the UK and is considered equivalent to an MBE.
Our volunteers work tirelessly to provide essentials like food, clothing, and toiletries, making a meaningful difference in the lives of rough sleepers. But our support goes beyond the practical: we also maintain one of the largest online service directories in the area to help people access the resources and help they need, when they need it.
This year, we are one of 281 charities, social enterprises, and voluntary groups across the UK to receive the King’s Award for Voluntary Service. Originally created in 2002 to celebrate Her Majesty The late Queen’s Golden Jubilee, the award now continues under His Majesty The King, honouring those who make a difference in their communities.
Representatives from our team will receive the award crystal and certificate from Mrs Jennifer Tolhurst, the Lord-Lieutenant of Essex, next year. Additionally, two of our volunteers will attend a garden party at Buckingham Palace in May or June 2025, joining other award recipients for this special occasion.
Dan Skeates, our Co-founder and Chair, shared: “It’s a real honour to receive the King’s Award for Voluntary Service. Our volunteers work hard to make a difference for rough sleepers, offering essentials and kindness where it’s most needed. This award recognises their commitment to our community.”
We’re incredibly grateful for this recognition, and we thank everyone who supports our work. Together, we’ll continue to provide kindness and support to those who need it most.
